Mission Statement—The Women's Studies Program at Colorado State University-Pueblo is committed to integrating scholarly inquiry, critical problem-solving methods, professional training, cooperative leadership skills, and practical strategies into a student-centered curriculum that will prepare students for real-life situations affecting the well-being of women locally and globally.

 Program Goals—Throughout the Women’s Studies program, students will:

• examine the diversity of women's experiences and the ways in which class, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and other variables intersect with gender

• learn about women by raising new questions and accepting women's perceptions and experiences as real and significant

•  address misconceptions about women and identifying ways in which traditional methodologies may distort our knowledge

• theorize about the place of women in society and appropriate strategies for change

• understand women's struggles, achievements, and contributions in past and present societies and across cultures from a feminist perspective

• study the conditions of women in various cultures and societies

• identify both the courses and consequences of women's subordination

• evaluate empirical and normative theories of gender construction and inequality

• develop critical and analytical skills, creative approaches to problem solving, and the ability to articulate productive alternatives

• identify and analyze gender-based assumptions and biases and to recognize their consequences on individual, social, and cultural levels

• evaluate and analyze competing perspectives on gender and other systems of social stratification

• collect and analyze empirical data on gender, both quantitative and qualitative

• cultivate oral, written, and presentation skills

• develop co-operative teamwork skills as well as leadership skills
