Honors Quartet Festival Application and Letter VSQ Announces New Undergraduate Honors String Quartet Program at CSU-Pueblo A unique chamber music program in Southern Colorado seeks highly motivated string players to study at CSU-Pueblo. The VSQ will generate a world-class experience by providing a high level of training and performance opportunities. The program creates an exciting environment in which to explore the exhilarating challenges of performing as a string quartet. Very few schools across the country offer programs to string players to focus on studying and performing quartets throughout their undergraduate years. The quartet members will each receive full scholarships. The honors quartet will prepare and perform at least one quartet recital program each year under the guidance of members of the VSQ. As part of the curriculum, the honors quartet will perform in master classes for guest artists. There will be extensive performing opportunities for the quartet on campus and within the community. The honors quartet will hold principal chairs in the University Symphony and have the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience performing with the Pueblo Symphony. The honors quartet will be involved in promoting music in the schools and perform educational programs for elementary schools. The quartet will be enrolled in chamber music and orchestra each semester. Contact the CSU-Pueblo
Music Department: (719)549-2552 Concert/Lecture The concerts of 20-40 minutes are usually consisting of different selections from the quartet repertoire with a short presentation/ lecture. The objective is to give students a wider perspective of music history, with a demonstration of different musical styles and discussion of relevant biographical information.
The Veronika String
Quartet is available for orchestral coaching and sectionals.
Coaching a full orchestra/string orchestra usually involves playing
for or with the Quartet. The students will be given suggestions
about how to improve their ensemble playing, develop better rhythmic
habits and perform in a stylistically correct manner. Strategies
for playing in tune and developing a beautiful tone are also
covered. Sectional coaching would address the same topics, only in
greater detail and with more individual attention. Master Classes Master classes are available for more advanced groups. Students perform their solo or chamber music pieces and get feedback from members of the Quartet. It could be done either in a public format, or as private instruction.
Some advanced school
music programs and youth orchestras (such as Colorado Springs Youth
Symphony or Rocky Mountain High School in Ft. Collins) have
developed strong chamber music programs. The Veronika String Quartet
is available for master classes or private chamber music coaching
sessions.
