1. Prepare students for beginning generalist practice with individuals,
families, groups, organizations and communities;
2. Prepare
students for lifelong learning, communication and critical
thinking skills through an educational process which integrates
a liberal arts foundation with professional social work
education;
3. Prepare
students for culturally competent practice with diverse
populations, with an emphasis on the Chicano/Chicana community,
First Nations peoples, and other indigenous regional populations
of the southwestern United States;
4. Prepare
students to utilize critical thinking as beginning generalist
practitioners with diverse client populations in work with
individuals, small groups, organizations and communities;
5. Prepare
students to understand the forms and dynamics of power,
oppression, and discrimination and to develop skills to
effectively advocate for social and economic justice with
individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities;
6. Prepare students
for professional practice based on the values and ethics of the
social work profession;
7. Prepare students for
generalist practice with rural, immigrant, and migrant client
populations;
8. Prepare students for
generalist practice with populations-at-risk; and
9. Provide students with
knowledge, values, and skills necessary to successfully complete
graduate education.
