The Colorado State University-Pueblo Curved Wall Gallery begins the 2006-2007 season with the opening of DOVA, an exhibition from four Colorado State University-Fort Collins Master of Fine Arts Graduates.
DOVA is a collection of prints and drawings from graduates David Linder and David Roholt.
David Linder depicts paintings and drawings of portraits of people he has known for years, days, seconds, and a couple are only by reputation. The paintings are created by memory where the drawings are mostly created with the subject sitting. Linder's work is a way to share the genius of the people he draws or paints with others who may never get to meet these extraordinary people. He hopes that people will realize the beauty and the strength that friends, family and acquaintances can bring.
David Roholt's work largely acts as an inspirational catalyst. Often swimmers, railroad cars, skies, and other various observed forms orchestrate as a spring board in his process. It is not merely a question of what only to depict, but rather how to reinvent and transform the subject into a more personalized image. His goal is not to mimic and copy the obvious, but rather to produce work that is unique and departs from the familiar.
