&lt;p&gt;Annual Southern Colorado Honor Orchestra and Choir&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;More than 180 Southern Colorado high school instrumentalists and singers will visit the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus, November 19-21 for three days of instruction by University faculty and guest clinicians as members of the fifth Southern Colorado Honor Choir and Orchestra. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Selected by their music teachers, the students will represent 25 high schools, two Pueblo middle schools, and the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony. CSU-Pueblo instruction will be provided by CSU-Pueblo faculty Dr. Dana Ihm, assistant professor of music; and Veronika String Quartet members Veronika Afanassieva, Ekaterina Dobrotvorskaia, Karine Garibova, and Mary Artmann.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This year’s guest conductor is Gary Nicholson, conductor of the Youth Symphony Orchestra, co-founded the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association in 1980. As a trumpeter, Nicholson has performed with the Aspen Music Festival, Wichita Symphony, Colorado Opera Festival, Colorado College Conservatory of Music, Colorado Springs Chorale, Music Theater of the Rockies, Fine Arts Center Repertory Teacher, Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra, and was a founding member of the Colorado Springs Symphony Brass Quintet and Pikes Peak Brass Quintet. He also has performed with Abendmusik, a professional quality vocal chamber ensemble. He also has toured orchestras to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and Eastern Europe. Nicholson currently teaches music at Broadmoor Elementary School in Colorado Springs District 12 and performs with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.&lt;/p&gt;

Students are going to be coached on Thursday, 11/19 and Friday, 11/20 in the afternoon with the concert on Friday, 11/20 at 7pm. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Festival is also presenting a Concerto Competition for the second time. There are 19 registered participants. There are 19 registered participants. &lt;p&gt;Annual Southern Colorado Honor Orchestra and Choir&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;More than 180 Southern Colorado high school instrumentalists and singers will visit the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus, November 19-21 for three days of instruction by University faculty and guest clinicians as members of the fifth Southern Colorado Honor Choir and Orchestra. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Selected by their music teachers, the students will represent 25 high schools, two Pueblo middle schools, and the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony. CSU-Pueblo instruction will be provided by CSU-Pueblo faculty Dr. Dana Ihm, assistant professor of music; and Veronika String Quartet members Veronika Afanassieva, Ekaterina Dobrotvorskaia, Karine Garibova, and Mary Artmann.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This year’s guest conductor is Gary Nicholson, conductor of the Youth Symphony Orchestra, co-founded the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association in 1980. As a trumpeter, Nicholson has performed with the Aspen Music Festival, Wichita Symphony, Colorado Opera Festival, Colorado College Conservatory of Music, Colorado Springs Chorale, Music Theater of the Rockies, Fine Arts Center Repertory Teacher, Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra, and was a founding member of the Colorado Springs Symphony Brass Quintet and Pikes Peak Brass Quintet. He also has performed with Abendmusik, a professional quality vocal chamber ensemble. He also has toured orchestras to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and Eastern Europe. Nicholson currently teaches music at Broadmoor Elementary School in Colorado Springs District 12 and performs with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;img style="width:201px;height:247px" height=459 alt="Maria Melendez" src="/Events/PublishingImages/Melendez.jpg" width=255&gt;Maria Melendez, the new editor/publisher for &lt;i&gt;Pilgrimage &lt;/i&gt;magazine, lives in Pueblo, Colorado. She has taught creative writing and American literature at Utah State University and Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN. Her work in community outreach and education includes five years as a poet-teacher in K-12 classrooms with California Poets in the Schools, and three years as writer-in-residence at the UC Davis Arboretum, where she taught environmental writing workshops for the public. His stories have been published in &lt;i&gt;Gulf Coast&lt;/i&gt; and &lt;i&gt;The Journal,&lt;/i&gt; &lt;i&gt;Mississippi Review&lt;/i&gt;, &lt;i&gt;The Pinch&lt;/i&gt;, &lt;i&gt;River City&lt;/i&gt;, &lt;i&gt;Green Hills Literary Lantern&lt;/i&gt;, &lt;i&gt;Slice&lt;/i&gt;, and &lt;i&gt;Quarter After Eight&lt;/i&gt;. His poetry and experimental prose has appeared in &lt;i&gt;Brand&lt;/i&gt; (UK), &lt;i&gt;Waccamaw, Sonora Review&lt;/i&gt;, and&lt;i&gt; Double Room&lt;/i&gt;, as well as in the anthologies &lt;i&gt;Diagram.2&lt;/i&gt; and &lt;i&gt;Degenerative Prose: Writing Beyond Category&lt;/i&gt;. &lt;/p&gt;
