The Die-In

October has been designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  On the CSU-Pueblo campus members of Voices of Empowerment host a “Die-In” to raise awareness of domestic violence.  The demonstration relies on student volunteers to represent victims who have died at the hands of their abusive partner.  Lying motionless on the ground, each victim holds a sign displaying statistics of domestic violence both locally and nationally.

With the help of the Women’s Studies department, the YWCA, and other student organizations on campus, the Die-In’s organizers hope that this event would alert others to be mindful about the things that happen behind closed doors.  With domestic violence continuing to be a “silent” issue, it is important for demonstrations such as this to bring the situation to the surface as opposed to ignoring it.
