As part of its assessment plan, the Department of Social Work uses the Academic Content Achievement Test (ACAT) that is a standardized, national instrument. The ACAT is administered during the final field seminar in the very last semester of study. The content areas covered in this instrument are HBSE, Research, Policy and Service, Social and Economic Justice, Practice, Diversity, Values and Ethics, and Populations at Risk. The department has administered this assessment tool since 2005. There are individual scores but the department looks at the total scores and tracks them across time. If students want to know their individual scores, they can contact Dr. Langer. The benchmark that the department has set is 50th percentile; no area score should be less than the 50th percentile, with an aspiration of 70th percentile.
