Mountain Public Broadcasting System affiliate, KTSC-TV, provides hands-on opportunities for students.
Television production students serve on the production staff, including
producing and directing, for locally produced daily and weekly programs which
are broadcast regionally and state-wide.
Production and post production opportunities prepare students to work in
the television industry.
Hotline is an upper division lab that is offered to all mass communications
students during Fall and Spring semesters. This hands-on lab demonstrates all
aspects of production on a live television show that is broadcasted on Rocky Mountain
PBS. This student-based television production offers experience as a director,
technical director, floor director, audio operator, camera operator, and
character generator (computer graphics). Producers will be selected based on
information on Homework Hotline, please visit http://www.rmpbs.org/homeworkhotline/.
Matchwits is an upper division lab that is only offered during Fall semesters. Students
with prior television production experience are encouraged to register. This Colorado-statewide
high school game show requires a professional production staff of students. This
program is pre-recorded and edited. Students will have the opportunity to set
up the studio, edit video, monitor audio and cameras, and operate the
teleprompter. Matchwits is a proud recipient of the Colorado Broadcasters
Association for the Best Mini-Documentary or Series Award for 2012.
School News is a news cast produced by 5th and 6th
graders. Previous Homework Hotline students are encouraged to volunteer with
production for greater experience. This pre-recorded series is produced five
times in Fall semester and ten times in Spring semester. Students will have the
opportunity to operate cameras and audio, direct students on the floor and
oversee the character generator (computer graphics).
