History Day

History Day Logo.gifThe History Program at Colorado State University is an active participant in the Southeastern Colorado Regional History Day competition.  For this competition, students choose a historical topic that ties with the national theme and conduct both primary and secondary research through their local libraries, museums, archives, and historic sites.  After developing a detailed analysis and interpretation of these sources, and after considering the significance of their topic, students present their findings in a specific medium, such as a research essay, website, public performance, documentary, or poster exhibit.  These students, spanning grades 7-12, attend the regional competition on the CSU-Pueblo campus.  Students who are successful at the regional level are then entered into competitions at the state and national levels, where their work continues to be evaluated by professional historians and educators. The program culminates in a national competition--the Kenneth E. Behring National Contest--which is held each June at the University of Maryland at College Park.

The theme for the 2012 competition is "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History."  For additional information, see the National History Day website's "Getting Started" page, available at http://www.nhd.org/GettingStarted.htm
